How to Nurse a Kitten
FEEDING – dry food of super premium class (Hills, Eukanuba, Sanabnl Bosh, etc.). You shouldn’t change food in the first days. New food should be added gradually, diarrhea is possible. In the case of allergic reaction (itching, redness of tummy, eye tearing), the food should be stopped. Allowed food includes cans (Gurmet, Hills, Sheba, etc.), natural food, such as boiled meat (be careful with raw meat), chicken (prefer white meat), turkey, sea fish (add gradually), milk, cottage cheese, non-sweet yoghurt at your will, eggs at your will, sometimes boiled liver. In case of mixed feeding, dry food and natural products should be given separately.
TOILET – use clodding filler during the first two weeks. Afterwards, you may gradually change over to any other, favourable (absorbing, silica gel). Teach to use an empty container very carefully; if a kitten doesn’t like it, it may start doing it in not allowed places. Provide continual access to the container, during the first days at any signs of kitten’s causeless anxiety, show the container to it. While it is getting used to a new container, it may peep at using it. There may be stool absence during 1,5 - 2 days in case of moving out. During the first night a kitten might cry and be anxious.
VACCINATION – your kitten is vaccinated with the ___________________. The next vaccination should take place __________________________________________________. If a kitten will be outdoors, it can be vaccinated against impetigo (at your will).
ANTIHELMINTIC DRUGS – once a quarter of a year, if a kitten is outdoors or eats raw meat. As for the rest – once every 6 months. You may give Drontal, Caniquatel, Febtal, Alben, etc., using dosage according to the weight.
HYGIENE – a kitten must let you cut its claws, clean its ears and eyes, comb its fur. It is better to get a kitten used to washing (at least, paws, bottom. Wash it whole not more than once a month or as it’s getting dirty. Many people don’t wash cats. As Burmese have big bulging eyes and short neb, kittens might be tearing, especially after eating. It is enough just to wipe crusts off. In case of purulent inflammation, use anti-inflammatory eye drops (Iris, Ciprovet, Maxitrol).
GAMES – don’t play with a hand and don’t punish. Stop attempts to attack feet and hands, don’t let a game be perceived as hunting. The more you play and talk to a kitten, the more communicative and cleverer it would become. Teach it the word “mustn’t” in cases of jumping on a table, biting, leaving a flat, spoiling furniture, etc. Get a scratching post, as kittens younger than one year may sharpen claws at furniture. During the first days in a new house a kitten might disturb you at nights. Gradually, it will get used to your timetable.
